Monthly Archives: January 2016

January 31 …

Today is January 31, 2016.

The older we get, the faster the time goes by!

Tomorrow if February … already! My birthday is in February, so it’s my favourite month!

I’m thinking about trying out yoga. I’ve had a sore/tight back for about 6 months now and the chiropractor has helped, but I can’t help but think that yoga will not only help loosen my muscles all over, but will also stimulate lymph movement and assist in my health journey.

I’m going to try YYoga in Vancouver. They offer a newbie version of 1 month unlimited (yoga, spin, sauna) for only $40!

Plus, at work we’re given $500 to use towards health improvements, so I’ll get it back anyways! AND … I can get some new workout/yoga clothes under this plan, too!

Was thinking about starting the 1-month trial today … but it’s been raining non-stop and I don’t really feel like leaving the house (other than I went for groceries this morning and got my nails done!)

If I start the 30 day trial today, it would take me through February 29 … granted, if I wait until tomorrow, I’ll have it until March 1!

I also really would like to get fully on-track with the 21 Day Fix starting tomorrow. That would take me through February 21 and my birthday is the 23!

Jamaica, Mon!

I’m so sorry for the lack of posts … but I’ve been in Paradise for a week!

Jamaica. Negril, to be exact. I absolutely LOVE it there! This was my 3rd visit to Negril and I can’t wait for my next trip!

A palm tree … surprisingly something you don’t see many of!

This is Maude. She is Niah’s sister. If (when) you go to Negril, you MUST search our Niah’s Patties … they are the BEST!

This is Maureen. She is the owner of the Sunny Side Bar on Seven Mile Beach. You can get an ice-cold (sometimes literally frozen … but she won’t serve you the frozen ones!) Red Stripe (beer) for $170 JA (approximately $2 CA).

A shot of “The Cliffs” in Negril.

While it was amazing to be away and visit Negril again, it is so good to be home and getting back to reality & routine.

Good part of this vacation … I actually LOST 2 pounds!!!

Pets as Dependents!

Does anyone else think that pets should be allowed as a dependent for income tax & extended benefits?

I can’t remember when I last blogged … so a recap of the past few days.

My lower back has been bothering me – feeling tight, etc. So I went to the chiropractor last Thursday and explained my soreness. I told him that I’d noticed it drastically since moving to Vancouver and walking 7+ KM per day … it just aches!!!

He checked me over and told me that my back, indeed, is tight, knotted, etc. He said it’s likely been this way for over a year, but that I’ve simply noticed it more in the past 5 months because the tightness is right at the lower back where your hip joints connect.

At the end of the first appointment, I booked in again for Monday.

Well the walk to work Monday was tough … my back was SO tight … tighter than I have noticed it recently! I went to see him at 1:15 and also had previously decided that I’d go home after to ice my back and just lay down … and idea he totally agreed with.

Upon returning home (back much looser, thank goodness!) I checked Baunzai’s neck. She’s had some skin irritation and the spot on her neck has kind of been expanding and she’s losing fur. I’d been using Polysporin and Vitamin E ointment to try to soothe it and keep it from getting infected.

Unfortunately, this was starting to look bad … and with my going away for a week, I wanted to get her into the vet for a check.

Hail a cab and off we go! The vet said it was infected, but not horribly. He gave her a steroid shot to fend off the itchiness/scratching, and also gave me some antibiotics for her at home.

Now … I don’t know about other cats, but both of mine turn their noses up to bananas. So when they told me the oral antibiotics for her were banana flavored – I was skeptical! Luckily, the dose is only 1 mL twice a day.

Well … sweet little Baunzai (hahaha) doesn’t really enjoy the shitty banana flavored drugs! I get them into the back of her throat and she does something to make her saliva become foamy and then it comes out her mouth … I’d say she’s likely getting 1/2 a dose each time! Boy oh boy!

So the cat sitter will have to finish giving her the drugs just for the first couple days I’m gone. Having a look at the neck sore, it’s looking WAY better – so that makes me feel good and appreciative of the drugs. Maybe not so much the $212 I had to spend at the vet … but you can’t win ’em all!

I’ve also restarted Waszabi on her kidney disease supplements. I have 2 separate supplements to squirt down her throat twice a day and she also detests them! I haven’t been very good with giving them to her … not since maybe November! But she’s been drinking a lot of water and has been having a bit of issues jumping up (spring in her hind legs) which are both signs that her kidney disease could be worsening. She’s supposed to go back to the vet in February to have her levels rechecked from November … it’s about $250 for the recheck blood work!

So just another task for the cat sitter … going to make sure the $40 + GST per day is worth it! LOL

After work today I hit up my nail place for a shellac manicure and was also able to get a pedicure with polish! So now all my nails are ready for Jamaica!!!

Oh Hellz Yeah!

Woot – 1st week of work in 2016 is done! It was a nice week. Not too long, not too fast.

But now it’s the weekend!

I actually obtained my second new client this week! One of the managers coming to our team … her hubby has a business and she was looking to get his books up to date, but didn’t really know where to start for the bookkeeping aspect. I mentioned I have a bookkeeping business and voila! I have my second new client! Starting 2016 off on the right foot!!

I withdrew my US and CA money today and I go pick up my Jamaican money tomorrow. Only 1 more week until I fly, fly away!!!

Food was relatively on-track this week. I was down 2 pounds as of before dinner yesterday … and that’s for 1 week, and allowing myself some 70% dark chocolate, too.

It’s nice to see results with simply following the food plan … just imagine what’ll happen when I toss in the working out!!!

Back At It!

Many people around the office are moaning and groaning about being back to work. I like my job … and having to go to work means I actually HAVE to get off my butt and leave the house!

It’s so nice to be back at walking the 30 minutes to and from work. Today I had my second meal around 11:00 am, so when lunch time came (I usually take lunch from 12:30 – 1:30) I wasn’t really hungry.

So I thought I’d go for a walk … oh right – you don’t know … I’m part of a FitBit challenge with some friends. We’re seeing who can rack up the most steps during this work week!

So back to walking! I thought I’d go for a walk … until I looked outside and saw it was raining – not surprising in Vancouver!

Luckily, the building has a gym and double lucky, the company I work for allows the gym to be complimentary for its employees!

So off I went to the gym and it was clearly visible that many people are on the New Year New Me plan cause it was relatively busy! I was able to snag a treadmill and did a nice 20 minute random walk. I was feeling a bit sweaty by the end – so that’s good!

It’s just shy of 7:00 pm now and I’m at 13K steps for the day. My minimum goal is 10K per day so I’m crushing it!

I’m chilling at home, I’ve watched my YouTube subscriptions, I’ve had teriyaki chicken stir fry for dinner, and now I’m about to finish watching The Bachelor from last night!

I do need to do the dishes and clean up the kitchen … it makes the day start so much better when everything you need is clean and you’re not wasting time searching for a dirty dish that needs to be cleaned before it can be used!

11 more sleeps until Jamaica!

Last Day

Today is my last day of holidays which means back-to-work tomorrow … provided this cold let’s me get a decent sleep!

The other day I had big plans … plans that never showed their faces! I was very sedentary with this head cold, but was finally wanting to get out yesterday. I think I managed about 7.7K steps … a couple K shy of my 10K minimum target.

My Shake-O today is a Vanilla Coconut Lime … it’s got 1/2 cup unsweetened coconut milk, 1/2 cup water, 2 tbsp lime juice, 1/2 tsp coconut extract, ice cubes and a package of vanilla shake-o.

It’s good, but it’s a little chalky. Yesterday I used a chocolate package, 1 small banana, 1 tbsp peanut butter, ice cubes and water … now THAT was delicious!

I’m heading out to Indigo Books today to pick up a 1st birthday gift for my bestie’s son.

I’m also getting back into routine for work … laundry, etc. to be done today.

Even though today is my last day of holidays, I only have 10 days of work before I head out to Jamaica :o) OMG can’t wait!!!

It’s my 3rd time to Negril and I absolutely LOVE it there! I have been also once to Cuba but it was no Negril! I’d like to try out Mexico and Hawaii, too.

Zzzzz

I think I’m one of those people who say “I only get sick once a year”.

Well … yesterday it started with a BUNCH of sneezing (first cold of 2015?) and the full blown congestion increased throughout the night and into the morning (first cold of 2016!).

I woke up around 5:00 am … because I was in bed sleeping by about 9:30 pm! However, I was NOT getting up at 5:00 am! I was able to go back to sleep and the fur babies let me sleep until 7:15 am!! Per my FitBit, I got 8 hours and 55 minutes of actual sleep, along with 1 hour and 16 minutes of awake/restless time. Clearly needed the extra Zzzz’s!

Normally on days off, I get into jammies (cause I sleep in no jammies) and plop my butt in my lay-z-boy and watch some tv. But this morning, of course after feeding the little minions, I hopped in a steamy shower to try to alleviate the congestion. Then I plopped my butt in the chair!

The shower seems to have helped.

Other plans/goals for today …

  • Stick to my 21 Day Fix eating plan
  • Do a 21 Day Fix workout
  • Get out for a long walk … at least an hour
  • Hit my 10K minimum steps
